A 30-year-old woman from Ajulu estate in Bondo town, Siaya County committed suicide Friday morning (August 25). The cause of suicidal ideation is yet to be established.
Caroline Auma, who was a small-scale business operator in Bondo town, died after consuming pesticide.
According to her younger brother, Auma left home shortly after receiving a phone call, which she did not explain what it was about.
She told her brother: “you won’t see me again” before leaving the house, said Bondo Township acting Chief, James Abonyo. Auma had spent Thursday night away and only returned home Friday morning, said her brother.
Auma was, two hours after leaving home, found writhing in pain on a roadside in Bondo town, said her brother.
It is then that her family and local residents learnt that she had consumed poison.
Efforts to rescue her with a first aid tip bore no fruits as Auma died on the roadside.
Auma’s body was moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, said Chief Abonyo.
Auma is survived by two children.
