A middle-aged woman, said to be a Kisii County Government employee, was on Thursday afternoon arrested on suspicion of conning more than ten people of thousands of shillings.
The suspect allegedly deceived her victims into giving her money by claiming she was in a position to facilitate their employment at the county government offices.
Confirming the incident, Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli said the woman, who has been apprehended, will assist in investigations into the graft claims.
Mr Nguli said the suspect had conned more than ten people of thousands of shillings, with each of her victims parting with at least Ksh100, 000, while a significant number paid Ksh200, 000 for her help.
It is believed the woman was working with other officials at the employment board to con desperate job seekers of their money.
Mr Nguli said more victims of the woman’s con game are filing reports with the police.
The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations into the incident are completed.
The police boss urged job seekers to desist the temptation of issuing bribes in exchange for employment.
