A middle-aged woman from Kitui County has narrated how she lost Ksh200, 000 to conmen in March, 2018.
Dorcas Mwaniki, who hails from Kyuso in Mwingi Central, says she had borrowed the money from Kenya Women Microfinance Bank (KWFT) in Kitui Town so that she could use it to buy a motorcycle for boda boda business.
She says once she stepped out of the bank, a middle-aged woman approached her, requesting to go on a coffee date with her at a nearby hotel.
Ms Mwaniki says she declined the woman’s offer. She claims the woman and a man, she (suspect) was in the company of, drugged and bundled her into a waiting car, where they robbed her of her Ksh200, 000.
She says she woke up and found herself at the Mwingi Level Four Hospital.
Mwingi Central OCPD John Nyamu says three suspects, including the ones who allegedly stole Ms Mwaniki’s Ksh200, 000, were arrested on Wednesday, April 11.
Mr Nyamu urged Kitui residents, who have lost money in similar circumstances, to report their ordeals at the Mwingi Police Station. Mr Nyamu says the three suspects will be presented to complainants for identification.
Mwingi Town, of late, has been invaded by fraudsters, and Mr Nyamu urges residents to be careful when interacting with strangers.
