A man, believed to be in his late twenties was on Friday, March 30, found dead inside a bar at Kutus Town, Kirinyaga County in what police suspect was a case of drugging.
The now-deceased, who was a well-known cigarette trader in Kutus Town, checked in at the entertainment joint at 1am Friday accompanied by woman alleged to be a commercial sex worker.
“They bought alcohol costing Ksh500. After serving them, I continued with my duties. I was the sole attendant Thursday night through early Friday,” said the bar waiter, Joseph Kiama.
There were around ten other customers at the bar, when the two checked in, said Mr Kiama.
Mr Kiama closed the bar at around 3am; and says when he looked around before leaving the spot, he did not see any customer, who was still having his or her drink.
Mr Kiama says when opening the bar at 6am Friday, he discovered there was a man, who was “sleeping in a sitting position”. The bar attendant says the man was confirmed dead after police arrived at the scene.
The suspect, a woman in her twenties, arrived at the scene early Friday and denied having drugged the now-deceased.
Police arrested and took her to Kianyaga Police Station as investigations into the cigarette trader’s death continue.
The trader’s body was moved to Kerugoya Level Four Hospital.
Gichugu OCPD Hussein Hassan confirmed the incident.
