Witchdoctors in Kirinyaga County are going through a rough time after area commissioner Samson Ojwang launched a crackdown on the traditional healers, saying they are adulterating the society’s spiritual values.
Mr Ojwang further claims that the herbalists are “causing unnecessary fear in society”.
Speaking at his office in Kerugoya Town on Monday, the county commissioner ordered chiefs to ensure posters advertising witchcraft services in Kirinyaga are brought down immediately.
“If they [witchdoctors] are not criminals, let them bring recommendation letters from chiefs in their area and pay taxes to the county government,” said Mr Ojwang.
Some of the witchdoctors have reportedly protested what they term as high-handedness by the county commissioner.
