Hot on the heels of his explosive social media attack on fellow gospel singer Bahati, Willy Paul has again made another shocking revelation: one of his greatest influences happens to be an infamous secular artist.

The Kitanzisinger has revealed that he was utterly obsessed with Justin Beiber, a Canadian pop star who has in the past been notorious for partying, drug use and arrogance.

In a lengthy social media post, Willy Paul, who has himself been involved in a number of controversies, revealed that he fashioned himself after the What Do You Mean hit-maker,

“Three years back, I looked up to Justine Bieber a lot. I copied his dressing, singing, dancing and walking style… I got so obsessed to a point that I almost got his hair cut… I even tried talking like him bit my swahili accent always sold me out,” revelaed the singer.

Much like Bieber, Willy Paul had a meteoric rise to fame at a very young age. With his Sitoliatrack thrusting him into the gospel industry limelight, Willy Paul became a household name even before he finished his high school education.

Before long he, like his pop icon, was embroiled in numerous controversies. From accusing Gloria Muliro of hogging the profits of their Sitoliacollabo, to beefing with Bahati on social media and accusations of impregnating a fan-Willy Paul had it rough.

The gospel singer said that when people started ‘hating on him and accusing him falsely’; he thought about giving a public apology, just like his pop icon Beiber did.

“… (When) people started disliking him because of his bad behavior. His PR told him to delete all his post on his social platform e.g: Twitter, Facebook, tango, snapchat and Instagram. When he got back his first post was an apology letter to all his fans and the world at large.. It was followed by and apology song… I almost copied him,” revealed Willy Paul.

So why didn’t he follow in Beiber’s footsteps?

Divine intervention, the singer claims: “I asked God to tell me my purpose on earth… He did not answer immediately, but after one year he answered me and that’s when I found myself leading praise and worship at JCC Church.”

From this experience, the singer says that he learned what his purpose for living is.

“Now I know my calling… the Lord has appointed me to lead those who don’t know Him into His Kingdom…”
