Congolese musician General Defao was held at Rickseaside Villas in Nyali, Mombasa after his promoter allegedly failed to settle KSh20, 000 accommodation fee.
The singer has, however, been set free after the dues were settled.
General Defao was reportedly invited to perform at a club in Mombasa which had offered to pay for his meals and accommodation.
Defao claims the club management asked him to stay and perform on August 3. According to the rhumba maestro, he was booked in the hotel on July 28 and performed last Saturday.
The bill for his stay between July 28 and August 1 was cleared but the club had failed to pay for the additional four days.
However, the accrued money owed to the hotel was settled Saturday afternoon.
“It is true that General Defao was detained at the hotel. However, one of the Kenyan singers settled the KSh20, 000 bill Saturday afternoon. I can confirm the singer is no longer in detention,” said a source who spoke to eDaily in confidence.
It is not clear which artiste the source refers to, but reports claim it is singer Jaguar who bailed out Defao.
