A Japan-based Kenyan athlete Daniel Njenga was on Tuesday afternoon (June 6) abducted on Nyahururu-Gilgil road when he was going to pick up his last born daughter from Pembroke House Preparatory School in Gilgil.

Njenga’s whereabouts remain unknown even as police continue to search for him.

Confirming the incident, Nyandarua North OCPD, Timon Odingo, said Njenga was reportedly abducted by an unknown number of armed men, at Ol Kalou in Gilgil.

The Nyahururu athletic fraternity and his family are fearing for Njenga’s life, given it is two days since he went missing and no information – that would allay their fears – has been communicated.

OCPD Odingo said Njenga has been in the country since April this year.

Njenga, who was driving a Nissan X-Trail car model, of registration number KCG 317B, was carjacked before his abduction. His vehicle is yet to be recovered.

“Whenever the athlete-cum-businessman is in the country, he usually drops his daughter at Pembroke House Preparatory School in Gilgil every morning and picks her up in the evening. He had left Nyahururu at around 3pm Tuesday but never got home,” OCPD Odingo told eDaily.

The Nyandarua North police boss said the school management alerted Njenga’s wife, Monicah, that their daughter had not been picked up as was usual, and that was when the search for Njenga began.

OCPD Odingo said the incident was reported at the Gilgil Police Station on Tuesday.

Odingo revealed that, according to police investigations, Njenga last used his mobile phone at Wanjohi area in Kipipiri.

“This is where he made his last calls, many kilometers from his place of destination,” said Odingo.

Odingo said that police have information that the car was spotted driving toward Nairobi at Kinungi area later Tuesday.

“We have people who spotted the vehicle driving towards Nairobi, complicating the matter. We are still making efforts to trace its location,” said Odingo.

Odingo noted that police have combed the entire Wanjohi area in search of the athlete but all was in vain.

Njenga is the owner of several businesses in Nyahururu among them the Nyahururu Olympia Hotels and Nyahururu Sports Arena hotel.
