Kenyan-born track runner and 5000meters Rio Olympics gold medalist has spoken about her relationship with Jamaican track star Usain Bolt, saying they are friends.
Ms Cheruiyot was seen chatting with the 9-times Olympic champion Saturday 20 August, before the race began and this prompted people to ask how the two know each other.
“We work under one management, he is my friend,” she said.
The celebrated star says that the chat was a blessing as it saw her beat the pre-race favorite, Almaz Ayana of Ethiopia – a gifted Ethiopian athlete who beat her seven days ago to win the 10,000m gold medal.
“Maybe it is a blessing from Bolt,” Cheruiyot revealed during a post race interview with Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura.
The 32-year-old produced a spectacular performance, clinching the women’s 5000meters gold with a new Olympic record of 14:26:17.
