A disturbing viral video of two Kenyan women being assaulted by an army official in Beirut, Lebanon, has attracted online furore.
In the 58-second-video clip, the victims can be seen sitting on the ground while being beaten up. A few seconds later, other members of the public join in to attack the women.
According to Middle East Eye, the two women were arrested and their aggressor, an army official, let go by the police.
The outlet says the victims later filed assault complaint. Lebanese Minister for Justice Salim Jean Jreissati condemned the “racist” incident, and asked relevant authorities to “settle the resident status” of the Kenyan women.
The army official has since been arrested.
It remains unclear why the army official descended on the two women.
