Rongo University College in Migori County has suspended learning activities at its campuses in Awendo Town and Rongo Town to conform to the requirements of the Commission for University Education (CUE).
A university college is not allowed by law, according to CUE, to establish satellite campuses until it gets a charter.
Students who were taking their studies at the college’s branches in Awendo and Migori have been forced to continue with their learning programmes at the main campus in Kitere.
Speaking to Citizen Digital the Director of Privately Sponsored students at the university Prof. John Olouch said suspending their services at the university branches is a tactful approach to enable them get the charter scheduled for October 7, 2016.
Prof. Oluoch observes suspending its services at the branches does not mean that they have closed the branches.
He added that the university will now have the power to establish more branches after receiving charter on October 7, 2016 at the State House, Nairobi.
Rongo University is currently a constituent college of Moi University.
