‘Churchill Show’ comedian MC Jessy has apologised over a joke, which a section of audiences believe was made in bad taste during a live recording last week.
In a viral video, MC Jessy, who was on stage, is heard urging women not to date handsome men – often deemed to be trouble-makers –, and instead focus their love on men who are not eye-candy.
While making that remark, the camera person zoomed into an elderly audience member; and had his picture beamed on screens in the hall, where the show was being recorded.
Other audience members burst out laughing at the elderly man.
The video, which has since gone viral, has attracted a barrage of comments criticising the comedian for being “insensitive”, “unfair” and “mean” to the elderly man, now identified as Mzee Achoka.
MC Jessy has now come out to apologise to Mzee Achoka and Kenyans.
Taking to Instagram Monday, the comedian said: “Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. On behalf of the cameraman, producer, ‘Churchill Show’ family and I. We want to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to Mzee Achoka, his family and Kenyans in general. I do not have any excuses. I take full responsibility for the production of this episode that might have gone in bad taste. I am really sorry it happened. In future, I promise it won’t happen again.”
