A 21-year-old Co-operative University student on Thursday killed himself in a lodging facility at Kapsoit trading centre in Ainamoi Constituency, Kericho County.
Eric Kiprotich Bowen committed suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance, Belgut OCPD Philip Okello says.
Bowen had partied with his friends at Kapsoit trading centre earlier before retiring to his room, where he took his life.
OCPD Belgut says Bowen had called one of his family members, and informed him that he was on the verge of suicide, and that should they be worried about him, “they know where to find his body”.
The worried family member called the owner of the guest house the student had booked himself into, and asked him [guest house owner] to go check on Bowen.
When the guest house owner knocked on the student’s room, he did not open the door.
Police officers from Kapsoit post, who had been alerted about the incident, arrived at the lodging facility and found the student had already died.
A bottle of poisonous substance was found in Bowen’s room.
The student’s body was moved to Kericho District Hospital mortuary.
