Police in Rarieda Sub-County, Siaya County have launched investigations into a Monday night fire, which demolished a house belonging to a preacher at Ndori trading centre.
Residents say unknown arsonists stormed the preacher’s house late into the night and set it ablaze following allegations that the preacher, only identified as Japolo, had swindled the arsonists out of thousand of shillings through false prophecy
During the attack, two women, who were in Japolo’s house, managed to escape unscathed as the arsonists ordered them to vacate the building before setting it ablaze.
Residents say the women, who were the only occupants of the house at the time, were waiting for Japolo to return home “to pray for them”.
Confirming the incident, area Assistant Chief, Maurice Onimbo, said the arsonists collected the household goods together and set them on fire before taking off in a Toyota Probox.
The local administrator says they are yet to establish the identity of the suspects.
The police have already launched a manhunt for the suspects, who remain at large.
Chief Onimbo said Japolo, who was away during the incident, is yet to record a statement with the police.
