Two men from different villages in Embu North Sub-County committed suicide on Christmas Day over what area OCPD Mark Wanjala suspects to be domestic wrangles.
The Embu North police boss said that in the first incident, a 48-year-old man identified as Lawrence Kinyua from Kibugu Village hanged himself from the rafters of his house on December 25.
Wanjala suspects that Kinyua, who was well until his decision to commit suicide, had fallen out with his wife.
Kinyua did not leave a note behind to state why he killed himself.
In the second incident, a 78-year-old man namely Elijah Michiki Gatimu from Kianjokoma Village was also found dangling from the roof girders of his house.
Just like Kinyua’s, the cause of Gatimu’s death is yet to be established – but police boss Wanjala suspects that the elderly man decided to end his life after a domestic wrangle.
Investigations have been launched into both suicide incidents. The two bodies were taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
Wanjala has urged church leaders and elders within the society to offer counseling to emotionally affected victims.
Wanjala also urged families to sit down and talk over controversial issues, as that would help to prevent emergence of suicidal ideation.
