Mariam Sepetu, the mother of award-winning Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu, has said unknown people have resorted to stoning the roof of her house, situated in Sinza Mori in Dar es Salaam, a few days after her daughter decamped from the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to the Opposition, Chadema.
Ms Sepetu says the unknown people, on Sunday night, stoned her house’s metal roof for one-and-a-half hours.
Ms Sepetu said throughout the night she was engulfed in fear, thinking the people were out to harm her.
“I did not manage to sleep. I wanted to call my brothers and neighbours to come rescue me, but my phone’s charge had run out. I could not go out of the house because I did not know who was outside – and I did not know their intention either,” said Mariam Sepetu.
On Monday morning, Mariam Sepetu informed her daughter, Wema Sepetu, and Chadema leadership about the Sunday night incident.
Ubungo Mayor, Boniface Jacob, who visited Mariam Sepetu’s home, decided to give her a security team that will look after her.
“We have investigated the incident and found out something strange. We won’t reveal much about that finding, but we have put in place security measures to ensure that no one attacks Mariam Sepetu again. The area police commander and I would be visiting frequently to ensure that Ms Sepetu is doing fine,” said Mayor Jacob.
Ms Sepetu on Wednesday, February 25, ditched CCM to join Chadema, citing lack of democracy in CCM.
Until her decamping, Wema was the CCM Nzasa branch chair.
