A middle-aged man was on Monday arraigned in a Mombasa court for allegedly obtaining Ksh9 million by false pretense.
The court heard that Khamis Ahmed Khalif duped John Douglas Omondi into parting with Ksh9 million, saying he [Khamis] was able to pray for the money to multiply by two times.
However, when Omondi gave him the Ksh9 million in cash – expecting Ksh18 million in return –, the suspect disappeared, the court was told.
Khamis allegedly committed the offence between October 2018 and April 2019 at Kisauni area in Mombasa.
The suspect also faces charges of being found in possession of fake Ksh100, 000 notes on April 29, 2019.
Khamis also faces charges of defacing – by setting on fire – a Ksh200 note, three Ksh100 notes and four Ksh50 notes.
The suspect denied all the charges before Resident Magistrate Rita Amwayi.
He was released on Ksh1 million cash bail and an assurety of a similar amount.
The case will be heard on May 27.
