Tiwa Savage: I won’t be shamed for suffering a broken marriage!

Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage has hit out at those criticising her for featuring as a video vixen in Wizkid’s new song titled “Fever”.

After the release of the song, Twitter users – in their thousands – speculated that the two artistes were “having a thing”.

Despite Tiwa Savage, 38, stating in an August, 2018 interview on Nigeria’s Soundcity Radio that she and Wizkid, 28, were “just friends”, online users thought that the chemistry depicted by the two singers in the new jam goes beyond friendship boundaries.

In the music video, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid, who are seated on a beach bed, are recorded holding, caressing and kissing each other in what a section of online users reviewed as “quite erotic”.

Tiwa Savage was a top trend on Twitter early Wednesday, with social media users wondering why she accepted to be used as a video vixen in Wizkid’s song, yet she is equally a big entertainment brand.

Other online users claimed that Tiwa Savage is “too old to portray herself in such fashion in Wizkid’s song”.

And not a lady to take esteem-bruising jabs lying down, Tiwa took to Instagram to clap back at her “haters”.

“She is not going to feel ashamed [by statements thrown her way such as: she suffered a] broken marriage, [she is a] single mother, [an] old woman… If [being] any of the above is a crime, then take me to court. If not, then eat pepper stew. I am serving and eating plenty of water because of His grace, and His grace alone. I am not stopping anytime soon,” said Tiwa Savage on Instagram Thursday.

The “Key to the City” singer also rubbished claims that she was getting cozy with Wizkid in “Fever” video so as to make her estranged husband Tunji ‘Teebillz’ Ballogun jealous.

“I genuinely just want to be happy, and that is what I strive for. I am no trying to hurt anybody,” said Tiwa on Instagram.

Tiwa Savage and Teebillz went separate ways in April 2016 after a turbulent three-year marriage.

The award-musician accused her husband, Teebillz, of taking her for granted.

Until Tiwa’s April 2016 revelations, Teebillz had accused the musician of being unfaithful, claiming she slept with Don Jazzy, 2 Face Idibia (who is now known as 2Baba), Dr. Sid, among other celebrities. Tiwa denied those allegations.

Tiwa Savage, thereafter, declared her marital status as single.

She was, a few months later, spotted hanging out with Wizkid in several events.

The two musicians went ahead to collaborate in their jams called “Malo” and “Bad”.

During Wizkid’s London performance in May 2018, he called Tiwa Savage to the stage and asked her to co-perform with him their smash hit “Malo”.

While introducing her to the revelers, Wizkid referred to Tiwa Savage as “someone special”.

Wizkid went ahead to ask the “All Over” musician, who was sporting booty shorts on stage, to continue “staying sexy for daddy”.

His remark fanned dating rumours among their fans.

Musician Davido, in May 2018, fuelled the Tiwa-Wizkid affair rumours, when he suggested to Wizkid that Tiwa Savage was the right sister [lover] for him.

Wizkid had posted a tweet, saying he was looking for a sister [lover] in reference to Davido’s “Assurance” song.

Wizkid wrote: “I’m looking for a sister,” part of the lyrics to Davido’s “Assurance” song dedicated to his lover, Chioma Avril.

Davido responded to Wizkid’s tweet, saying: “Tiwa our sister ooo [adds laughing emoji] Star Boy.”

In September, 2018, Tiwa’s ex-husband, Teebillz, was forced to delete his lewd message on Instagram after it attracted strong backlash.

On September 10, Teebillz said he was sure that Wizkid was not sleeping with Tiwa Savage.

Teebillz said he and Wizkid have a brother’s keeper agreement.

Teebillz further said should Tiwa feel like getting intimate with another man, then she’s free to go for billionaire Aliko Dangote or award-winning musician Davido – and not Wizkid.

“Whether you like it or not, [Wizkid] Ayo is my little brother. He knows that he shouldn’t cross my path [by dating Tiwa Savage]. I am saying this to the general public that tends to come at me, making some disrespectful comments. Thank you Titi [Tiwa Savage] for respecting me. Social media users’ opinion on her and my little brother, Wizkid, is bullshit. Don Jazzy will never allow Wizkid to sleep with Tiwa. I don’t think Tiwa would put me down like that [by sleeping with Wizkid],” Teebillz posted to his Instagram page on September 10.

“She better sleeps with Aliko Dangote, Adeleke aka Baba Olowo [Davido],” said Teebillz, adding: “Tiwa and Wizkid, continue to give us the fire [hit songs].”

Online users claimed Teebillz’s post smelled of “insecurity”, “immaturity” and “signs of a man struggling with depression”.

Twitter user, Imoh Umoren, said: “Teebillz is hurting. I hope he gets the help he needs. Emotional trauma can result in people being unpredictable.”

Amanda Uyanah said: “If Teebillz indeed wrote the post I have read, we – all – should be concerned. All I see here is emotional trauma. People should check him up to see if he is okay. I am scared for him. People will be quick to call him childish, but this guy needs help.”

Another Twitter user, whose handle is @JustLit, said: “Tiwa Savage should cut Teebillz out of her life. The embarrassment is too much.”

Upon receiving a barrage of online attacks, Teebillz pulled down the Instagram post the following day – September 11.
