The Ministry of Health, through the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, has recalled Fiesta Stamina and Fiesta Big Black male condoms on grounds that the contraceptives do not meet threshold medical standards.
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board said, in a November 20 letter to Cupid Limited, that the condoms failed “Holes” and “Thickness” tests.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board carried out a Post Marketing Surveillance activity and one of the products sampled was FIESTA STAMINA and FIESTA BIG BLACK condoms manufactured by CUPID Limited. The batch for FIESTA STAMINA failed Freedom from Holes test while that FIESTA BIG BLACK failed Thickness test,” says the health agency in the November 20 letter.
“You are hereby directed to immediately institute a recall of the affected batch. In addition, submit a recall plan within two days of receipt of this letter,” said the pharmacy board.
The health agency’s communications manager, Naomi Naanyu, has confirmed the authenticity of the letter.
Cupid Limited is a condom manufacturing firm headquartered in Mumbai, India.
It was founded in 1995, and began manufacturing of male condoms in 1998.
