REPORT BY MARTIN MUNENE FOR EDAILY.

Rigathi Gachagua, the brother of the late Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, was on Thursday morning declared the winner of Mathira MP Jubilee ticket.

Gachagua amassed 29, 215 votes against his closest competitor Wambura Maranga who got 25, 737.

Peter Weru, who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency, got 805 votes, despite having ditched the Jubilee Party.

Speaking shortly after his nomination win in Karatina town, Rigathi promised to hit the ground running in achieving his development agenda; adding that since the incumbent MP jumped ship, he is now the link between the Mathira people and the Jubilee government.

Rigathi further called on his opponents to respect the will of the people and remain in Jubilee Party as opposed to running as independent candidates on August 8.
