Tanzanian singer Snura Mushi was almost clobbered by angry fans for not performing her famous dance song Chura.
Snura was performing last weekend at an entertainment joint in Masasi, Dar es Salaam.
The musician’s manager, Hemed Kavu, confirmed the incident saying that Snura could not perform the song as it was banned by BASATA.
BASATA, a body that governs art practice in the country, on Sunday banned Snura’s Chura due to its erotic video.
Tanzania’s Head of Information and Communication, Zawadi Msalla, said that the ban was necessitated due to immoral acts displayed in the video, which has become popular soon after the artiste released it via social media.
“The government was shocked at the video,” she told Tanzanian media.
According to Hemed Kavu, since the ban was issued, Snura has not performed the song at entertainment joint and the Masasi incident was not the first.
“The problem is, Snura cannot perform the song because its video is banned. We have recorded a new video and taken it before the board for review,”said Hemed.
Snura survived wrath of revelers in Masasi when she was whisked away swiftly from the stage.
Since its release, Chura video had gone viral on You Tube.
