Kenyan radio presenter Tanasha Oketch now says she and her superstar boyfriend, Diamond Platnumz, postponed their wedding date — from February 14 to a yet-to-be-announced date — because she wanted to buy time to know more about the musician before getting into a lifetime commitment.
The 23-year-old made that revelation during a recent interview on Wasafi FM’s “Block 89” show.
Her statement seems to contradict that of her boyfriend, who, in January 2019, came out to claim they had put off their wedding plans because he wanted more time to prepare for a grand ceremony, which will be graced by, among others, American rapper Rick Ross.
“My wedding was supposed to be held on Valentine’s Day – February 14 –, but we have postponed it. Many people are supposed to attend the ceremony. I expect the likes of Rick Ross, among other high-profile entertainment figures, to be in attendance,” Diamond told Wasafi FM in January.
Until the recent interview with Wasafi FM, Tanasha hadn’t come out to reveal why their wedding plans aborted.
Unlike Diamond, according to Ms Oketch, the wedding plan came too soon, given she and the “Tetema” star had only known each other for a month before he floated the wedding plan.
“To be honest, we decided to take our time and focus on getting to know each other; loving each other… And, definitely, wedding plans will come (sic) God-willing,” said Tanasha.
Diamond announced his original wedding date (February 14) in December last year, just one month after he proclaimed his love for Tanasha, leaving many online users wondering why the couple was in a hurry to exchange wedding vows.
When he announced being in a relationship with Tanasha, some social media users speculated that the relationship was born out of an agreement NRG had signed with Wasafi team; and that the ‘relationship’ was to last the period in which the radio station sponsored the artistes’ shows in Kenya.
In a span of five months, much has been written about the couple, and quite a fair share of drama has surrounded their lives, with Tanasha Oketch announcing in mid-December last year that she wanted to keep her relationship with the singer private, hence her then-decision to delete the musician’s pictures from her social media pages.
The two have since introduced each other to their respective families, with Diamond’s mother, Sanura Kassim, saying she has welcomed Tanasha in her family.
