At least 40 passengers, who were traveling in a Tahmeed bus headed to Mombasa from Nairobi, escaped unscathed Tuesday, when the vehicle caught fire at Manyani area in Taita Taveta County.
The incident occurred at 5pm on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Taita Taveta County Traffic Commandant Michael Mureithi said the passengers were safely evacuated, when the bus burst into flames from its rear part.
The passengers’ belongings, however, were consumed in the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
The incident comes barely three days after a bus belonging to Dreamline Company caught fire at Makina area, leaving two passengers with severe burn injuries.
