An 11-year-old girl from Muguga village in Kabete committed suicide by hanging self in her bedroom after her parents differed in her presence Thursday.
The deceased identified as Beth Muthoni was a Standard Five pupil at Muguga Primary School.
It is alleged that Muthoni killed herself on Thursday, July 14 after she watched her parents argue over the conduct of her mother who deserted her father, Amos Kinyanjui, after the old man was paralysed following a road accident that he was involved in some time back.
Muthoni’s mother allegedly said her husband could not fend for her family, hence her decision to abandon Mr Kinyanjui.
Mr Kinyanjui admitted he – time and again – quarreled with his wife – and the domestic wrangles began to have negative impact on their children.
On Wednesday morning, he openly differed with his wife – and the children ran out of the house. In the evening, Beth did not return home. She instead got home Thursday morning, but kept to herself the whole day. In the evening (Thursday), she disappeared mysteriously.
Neighbours joined in the search for the 11-year-old – a search that was futile.
However, before Muthoni’s parents retired to bed, they conducted a search in her bedroom, only to find her body hanging from the roof girder.
Area MCA Francis Waithaka condoled with Mr Kinyanjui’s family. He has urged the pair to iron out their differences away from the children’s presence.
Muthoni’s body was taken to Kikuyu Hospital mortuary for preservation.
