Two weeks after receiving a gift in form of a car from the Deputy President William Ruto, singer Daudi Zakari from the Webuye Jua Kali band has appealed to the DP to automate the vehicle.
Zakari, who lives with disability, got a car donation from Ruto after the DP promised to buy him the vehicle in 2015 when he visited Webuye West during a funds drive at Matulo Friends Girls Secondary School.
Due to his disability, Zakari said the vehicle has not been useful as he is unable to drive it himself.
“I am now forced to pay drivers huge sums of money to carry me around in this car. I am humbly appealing to the DP to modify this car so that I can drive myself and even work part time job as a taxi driver here in Webuye town,” Zakari told journalists at his home in Joyland estate in Webuye town on Friday, March 4.
Zakari said he has employed five drivers on shifts and had to teach his wife to drive in case of emergency.
The singer on Saturday, February 20 received the keys of the new Toyota Vitz model from Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama.
Speaking while receiving the car at Webuye Masinde Muliro Gardens, Zakari said he never expected to ever drive a car.
He said he has always earned meager returns from the music business after performing at funerals, schools and different functions.
“I am thankful to the deputy president for what he has done for me. May the Lord bless him and give him a heart to help more disabled people who have talent,” he said.
