Seven men from Karandori village in Kiangungi in Embu County will face murder charges for allegedly killing a man who expressed interest in a female bar attendant.
The seven: Josiah Kinyua Njoka, Nicasio Mwaniki Njue, Abinja Murugi Njue, Gerald Gikunju Mugo, Dennis Kariuki Mugendi, Humphrey Mugendi and Erasto Njoka Kimara were arraigned before Senior Resident’s Magistrate Vincent Nyakundi Friday, June 3.
The suspects were not allowed to take plea as they are set to be arraigned before the high court on June 13.
The prosecution sought that the seven be detained at Embu GK Prison while investigations are being conducted.
The seven are alleged to have murdered George Allan Murangari on May 13 at Karandori village.
The deceased, on the fateful day, is said to have ordered alcohol for the bar attendant only identified as Abinja, but she turned down the offer. She was in the company of Nicasio and Josiah.
The deceased reportedly insisted that Abinja must take the alcohol he bought her. Nicasio and Josiah consequently got furious and a fight ensued.
The deceased was reportedly thrown out of the entertainment joint by security officers. Nicasio and Josiah in the company of five other men followed Mr Murangari and allegedly beat him to death, leaving his body by the roadside.
Police arrested the seven suspects the following day.
The magistrate ordered that the accused persons be remanded at Embu GK Prison until June 13 when they will be arraigned in court and charged formally.
The court also ordered the state to solicit an advocate for the suspects.
