The Festival of Love – organized by Laffs and Jammz, Jungle Africa and sponsored by, among others, Royal Media Services brands – went down on Saturday at Uhuru Gardens.
The concert, which was heavily attended by lovebirds being a Valentine’s weekend, was hosted by talented actor/ singer Pascal Tokodi and fellow thespian Catherine Kamau-Karanja.
Among the performers of the blissful evening of romance included ‘Sitoi kitu kidogo’ hitmaker who rocked the crowd with his old-school Genge tracks.
Fast-rising soulful singer Elvis Who serenaded the ladies with his smooth voice while performing RnB renditions that brought out the love mood from the crowd.
Newcomer rapper Steph Kapela also took to the stage with a spectacular performance, even bringing out AFRIMMA Awards winner Khaligraph Jones as a surprise act to share the stage with him; much to the elation of the audience.
HipHop songstress Petra then took to the podium and, besides stealing the show with her jaw-dropping outfit, thrilled the audience.
She also brought out socialite Pendo as well as Kristoff for surprise performance. And when ‘Mluhya wa Busia’ gets up on that stage you know there’s only one thing on the people’s minds: ‘Dundaing’.
And then it was time for Kenya’s number one boy band Sauti Sol who belted out classics and kept the revelers on the feet; even the rain could not dampen their spirits.
Lead singer Bien Aime Baraza took a moment to appreciate the love from their fans saying: “Nyinyi ndio nguvu yetu, Asanteni kwa hii show mumenyeshewa na hamjaenda mahali, nasema asante.
(“You are our strength, thank you for this show, you have been rained but still did not leave, I say ‘thank you’”)
When the ‘Melanin’ hitmakers left the stage, the man of the night – Naija crooner Mr. Flavour – rocked up and gave the concert attendees their money’s worth despite the rain that was, by then, heavily pouring.
