Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol has released yet another mega hit, this time featuring Nigerian Marvin songstress Tiwa Savage.
The new track, ‘Girl Next Door,’ revolves around the love story of a boy and a girl (played by Bien Aime Baraza and Tiwa Savage) living on the same block.
On her first ever collaboration with the award-winning band, the All Over hit-maker says, “It’s been such an honor to work with Sauti Sol as I have been a big fan of their work since their first album ‘Mwanzo’ back in 2008. I am looking forward to us performing ‘Girl Next Door’ live in Kenya in the near future.”
Sauti Sol, on the other hand, speak on working with Tiwa saying, “We love this jam so much! We’ve been eyeing Tiwa Savage for years and we’ve always wanted to work with her. The collabo was seamless and everything we anticipated it would be.”
Sauti Sol is arguably one of Africa’s biggest bands, having scooped up a number of awards and nominations over their decade-long career spanning from the MTV Africa Music Awards, MTV EMAs, BET Awards, Sound city MVP Awards and AFRIMA.
The all-boy band was, in December, on the lips of many Kenyans online after their ‘Melanin’ release featuring Patoranking sparked a wild debate, with controversial KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua terming it as “scatological, intellectual incapacitation and a tragedy of monumental proportions.”
‘Melanin’, only a month old, has so far garnered 4.9 million views on YouTube.
Following this new release, Sauti Sol have vowed to release a track each month off their Afrikan Sauce LP.
