‘Rafiki’ film writer and director, Wanuri Kahiu, has signed with the Gotham Group, not long after the movie was banned in Kenya for portraying aspects of lesbianism.
The film by Ms Wanuri broke the internet when it became the first Kenyan film to showcase at the Cannes Festival in France.
Ms Wanuri, on Thursday, May 17, took to Twitter to share the news about her deal with Gotham Group.
‘Rafiki,’ which highlights a relationship between two women committed to breaking cultural barriers, speaks on evolving relationship dynamics and struggles which the youth undergo in their journey of self- discovery.
The Gotham Group of Companies, which is based in California, has produced top art works such as ‘Maze Runner’ and ‘Spiderwick Chronicles.’
