Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh has rubbished remarks by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo allegedly warning Deputy President William Ruto that Mt Kenya region might not back him fully in his 2022 presidential bid.
“I don’t know why people fear to mention William Kabogo’s name. I am not afraid,” Shebesh told a gathering in Kasarani Sunday evening.
“There’s no one who will cause division in the Jubilee government. Even if you are the governor of Kiambu County. Kabogo, we are telling you in 2022, William Ruto will be Jubilee presidential flag bearer.”
Shebesh’s comments come barely a day after Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau accused Kabogo of making reckless remarks that may lead to unnecessary animosity between Mt Kenya and Rift Valley factions.
Speaking at Kenyoho Secondary School in Murang’a during the Kandara Sub County price giving day on Saturday, Kamau said Kabogo does not seat in the Jubilee National Steering Committee, hence cannot speak on behalf of Jubilee.
However, responding to accusations on June 9, Kabogo said that DP Ruto is his friend and he is obliged to tell him the truth and advise him in the best way possible.
“Ruto and I are friends and as such I am entitled to tell him the truth. The conversation for 2022 presidential elections should begin now,” said the unapologetic Kabogo.
Kabogo noted that the Mt Kenya region is a big block and may end up splitting it votes should Meru Governor Peter Munya, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and DP Ruto all choose to run for the presidency.
