President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. Presidential election.
President Kenyatta on Wednesday, November 9, took to his official social media pages to share his congratulatory message to Trump, saying Kenya-US ties will endure since both nations share binding values.
“The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. They have chosen Donald Trump as their 45th President. Kenya congratulates Mr Trump for his victorious campaign, and his main opponent, Mrs Hillary Clinton, for her valiant effort,” President Kenyatta wrote on Twitter.
“The ties that bind Kenya and the United States of America are close and strong. They are old, and based in the values that we hold dear: in democracy, in the rule of law, and in the equality of peoples.
“These values remain dear to the peoples of both nations, and so our friendship will endure.”
Donald Trump floored Hillary Clinton after garnering more than the needed 270 electoral votes to win the presidency; as at 12 noon (EAT) Wednesday, Republican Donald Trump had bagged 276 electoral votes compared to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 218.
Trump, 70, is expected to be sworn in on January 20, 2017, when he will officially assume office.
