President Trump daughter’s fashion company is shutting down

The fashion company of U.S. President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, is shutting down, Page Six says.

Sources told Page Six that Ms Trump’s clothing and shoe company will be folded as soon as possible.

Staff have been informed that they’re being laid off, the news outlet says.

In a statement to Page Six, Ivanka said: “When we first started this brand, no one could have predicted the success that we would achieve. After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners.”

Since the inauguration of President Trump in January, 2017, Ivanka’s line of mid-priced shoes, purses, clothes and accessories has been dropped by stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Jet.com, DSW, Shoes.com, Belk, ShopStyle and Gilt, Business Insider says.

It was most recently shunned — in July 2018 — by Canadian chain Hudson’s Bay.

Nordstrom parted ways with the brand, which was launched in 2014, as far back as February 2017, citing “brand performance”, Page Six says.

“It’s just never recovered since she stepped away from the company,” an insider told the outlet.

Ivanka Trump became an official White House staffer in April, 2017.

She added that she is “beyond grateful for the work of our incredible team who has inspired so many women, each other and myself included. While we will not continue our mission together, I know that each of them will thrive in their next chapter.”

The company’s president, Abigail Klem, said: “I know that this was a very difficult decision for Ivanka and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have led such a talented and committed team. When faced with the most unique circumstances, the team displayed strength and optimism.”

The line is still available at Lord & Taylor, Dillards, Bloomingdales, Zappos, Amazon and Von Maur, Page Six reports.
