President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Kenya Sevens after the rugby team beat World Series leaders Fiji 30-7 in the just concluded two-day tournament in Singapore.
“A brilliant, confident and powerful effort has earned #TeamKenya a richly deserved #Singapore7s victory. Hongera. Way to go! #Kenya7s,” President Kenyatta tweeted.
Deputy President William Ruto has also wished many happy returns to the national sevens team.
He tweeted: “Congratulations #Kenya7s for making history by winning the first ever World Series Cup title at the 2016 #Singapore 7s.”
Opposition chief Raila Odinga has also commended Shujaa for their historic display in the world of rugby immortality.
He said: “Outstanding performance by Kenya Sevens. Flying the Kenyan flag high and proud.”
On their way to victory, Kenya had in the second main cup semi-finals towered above Argentina 15-12 in a highly charged super rugby match. Kenya veteran Collins Injera nailed a clutch 40m penalty drop goal at the death to beat the Argentines.
Fiji had in first main cup semi-final produced a Houdini act to stun South Africa 26-21.
