Valerie Masibo, an Eldoret woman who was assaulted by her husband last Friday, has revealed that the August 10 incident was not the first time her partner was brutalising her.
Ms Masibo, who is 4 months pregnant, says in their 5-month marriage, she has gone through all the phases of domestic violence.
She, however, ranks the August 10 battery by her husband as the worst of all the physical abuses he has subjected her to.
Ms Masibo says her husband, Naftali Lusuli, who works as butcher, returned to their Kipkaren Estate home from work last Friday, and accused her of “misusing” Ksh500 he had left for food.
An argument, thereafter, ensued, leading to aggression from her husband.
Ms Masibo’s face was deformed in the attack. She also sustained cuts to her ears.
After committing the heinous act, Naftali locked up his wife in the house, and, thereafter, fled.
Police, who were alerted of the commotions, arrived at the couple’s home, broke the door and rushed Ms Masibo to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she is recuperating.
Her pregnancy was saved, doctors at the facility said.
Naftali was arrested in Eldoret and arraigned Monday, August 13, for assault and causing grievous bodily harm to his wife.
He denied the charges before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa.
The suspect was released on a Ksh300, 000 bond and a surety of similar amount.
The case will be heard on August 20.
