Police in Nigeria have ordered musician D’Banj and his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow, to explain the circumstances in which their 1-year-old son, Daniel Oyebanjo, died last Sunday.
Nigerian media reported that Daniel drowned in a swimming pool at the musician’s Ikoyi, Lagos home on Sunday, June 24.
Ms Kilgrow, D’Banj’s wife, was in the house, when the incident happened.
Police now want the two to explain how the 13-month-old baby drowned yet there were adults in the house.
“It is expected that when the mourning period is over, the family will formally report the circumstances that led to the unfortunate death of little Daniel to the police,” Lagos State Police public relations officer, Chike Oti, said in a press statement Monday.
Mr Oti says police officers were dispatched to D’Banj’s house on Monday, but no occupants were present at the time of the arrival of the law enforcers.
Different celebrities, including Davido, Genevieve Nnaji, among others, have condoled with D’Banj’s family.
It is reported D’Banj was in the United States for the BET Awards gala, when his son died.
