A police officer attached to Rongo Police Station in Migori County was on Thursday, July 6 arrested on suspicion of raping a 21-year-old female student of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science And Technology.
The police officer, whose identity has been withheld, is expected to be arraigned on charges of rape once investigations into the incident are concluded.
According to Rongo OCPD, Kisaka Muganda, the police officer tricked the student, who had traveled from school Tuesday, when she alighted from a public service vehicle at Rongo town 10pm the same day.
Muganda said the accused, who was in the company of two other police officers, lured the woman into his house and allegedly raped her.
He said the woman was forced to spend the night in the police officer’s house until Wednesday morning, when she managed to escape and reported the matter at Kamagambo Police Station in the company of her parents.
“She met three men, who introduced themselves as police officers. From there, the police officers, treacherously, took the lady to one of the officers’ house. One of the police officers presented himself treacherously and had sexual knowledge with the woman.
“After the sex ordeal with the man, the lady managed, the following morning, to escape and went to her rural place, where she reported the matter to her parents, who filed a complaint at the Kamagambo Police Station. Investigations began immediately.
“During the investigations, the victim was able to take the police officers to the house of the accused. She identified him and from there, the officer was arrested. A rape case was established.
“I appeal to the public to be patient as we continue our investigations. No one is above the law; we’d treat the suspect, who is a law enforcer, as we would any other citizen.”
