A police officer attached to Kondele Police Station was arrested on Saturday morning after he and two of his colleagues allegedly robbed an M-Pesa agent in Nyalenda of his Ksh82, 000.
Constable James Lekamoi Sajini and his accomplices allegedly raided an M-Pesa shop in Nyalenda, claiming they were looking for bhang that they believed had been hidden in the shop.
Police say the three cops then robbed the M-Pesa attendant of his money, and, thereafter, handcuffed a security guard manning the building where the shop is housed.
According to police, the suspects also robbed the watchman of his Ksh6, 000, a phone and took away his sword.
Only constable Sajini was positively identified and arrested, DCI officers in Kisumu say.
Sajini, according to the detectives, has since refused to name his two accomplices.
Still in Kisumu, last week, two police officers were arrested for allegedly assaulting a petrol station attendant and demanding for free fuel.
Police Constable Valentine Ochieng, based at Mogotio Police Station, and AP Constable Julius Oduor, based at Maramanthi AP post in Tharaka Nithi, were arrested on Thursday night.
The officers reportedly stormed a petrol station at Kachok on Kisumu-Nairobi road on two motorcycles and accosted a tanker driver demanding to know why he was offloading fuel at the station at night.
The police officers, during the 1am incident, then reportedly ordered the attendant to fill the two motorcycles with fuel.
According to a police report, an argument ensued and the two officers started beating the tanker driver as well as the petrol station attendant.
Boda boda riders stationed near the petrol station intervened and alerted other police officers on patrol who then arrested and locked up the duo at Kisumu Central Police Station.
