BY MARTIN MUNENE IN NYERI COUNTY.
West Pokot Administration Police Inspector, Festus Mutuku, collapsed and died on Tuesday while consuming alcohol at a bar in Nyaribo, Nyeri County.
Mr Mutuku had visited his wife, a police officer, who works and lives in Nyeri.
The AP chief was rushed to Nyaribo Dispensary, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Revelers, who were with him at the bar where he died, said they saw him drinking an alcoholic beverage, which they suspect was sub-standard.
Mr Mutuku was a regular customer at the bar, and had ordered a quarter kilogram of liver meat, before the fatal incident.
Barton Kagathi, who operates a butcher shop next to the bar, said the AP boss had not even eaten his meal, when he collapsed.
The AP boss’s body was moved to Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary as authorities investigate the cause of his death.
Mr Mutuku’s neighbour in Nyeri, Pauline Muthoni, said the deceased was “a good man, who was widely liked by area residents”.
