Police in Sultan Hamud, Mukaa Sub-County in Makueni County are looking for a 38-year-old man, who was recorded on video assaulting his 35-year-old wife over claims that she has been cheating on him.
In a 33-second video clip, which has since been widely circulated online, the man identified as James Maweu, can be heard telling his wife, Margaret Nthambi, that he would beat her up if she doesn’t reveal the man “she has been sleeping with”.
Wearing a leso on the lower part of her body, Nthambi, is seen pinned to the ground with her blue top and white bra torn, exposing her breasts.
She is heard in the video saying: “I swear, there is no other man in my life besides you, James.”
Maweu hears none of her proclamations, instead continuing to batter her as she weeps helplessly.
The voice of another woman in the background can be heard saying: “James, James leave her alone. James she has heard you.”
The video was, seemingly, shot at night, given the darkness in the environment in which it was captured.
It is said the incident was caught on tape on Wednesday, January 16.
Maweu and Nthambi, who live in Sultan Hamud, where they operate a joint business, have been married for 18 years, and have a 13-year-old son together.
Nthambi has since returned to her parents’ home in Mbuinzau, Makindu Sub-County in Makueni County.
Nthambi claims that her husband had developed a habit of assaulting her.
Maweu’s whereabouts remain unknown, with OCPD of Mukaa Sub-County, Charles Muthui, saying they have launched a manhunt for him.
