Police force thief to eat over 40 bananas…the reason why is shocking

A thief in India bit off more than he could chew when stole a pricey gold chain off a woman’s neck in Mumbai, India.

The woman raised alarm about the theft, prompting irate members of the public to chase him down.

The police soon caught wind of the commotion, and they joined the chase.

When he realised that he could not prevent arrest, the 25-year-old decided to swallow the gold chain. Thinking he had outsmarted the cops, he then proceeded to vehemently refute claims that he has stolen the gold chain.

Little did he know that the police would subject him to an X-ray examination that would prove his guilt.

Doctors suggested an operation to extract the gold chain, but the police opted for a cheaper option: bananas.

“He was fed more than 40 bananas throughout the day,” Shankar Dhanavade, a senior inspector with Mumbai police, said.

“Eventually the chain was found. We made him wash and disinfect it,” the policeman said.

According to Hindustan Times, this is not the first time that the police have used this tactic.

In April 2015, another thief was given a “special diet” – comprising of bananas and laxative laced milk – after he swallowed a woman’s Ksh91, 000 (Rs60, 000) pendant.

Three days later, the necklace completed its journey.

Knowing the process it passed through, the disgusted owner could not bear to touch it. She took it back to the jeweller in a plastic back, asking for a replacement.
