Eleven out of 12 General Service Unit personnel who were part of a team that guarded President Uhuru Kenyatta were among the 43 who perished in tragic Naivasha accident on Saturday night.

The officers had been guarding the head of state at a rally in Bomet early Saturday. They met their death in Karai, Naivasha while driving back to Nairobi.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery confirmed the death of the 11.

The fatal accident which occurred at 9:45pm Saturday in Karai area along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway claimed the lives of 43 people.

The accident occurred when a canter transporting flammable materials from Mombasa toward Uganda rammed into several vehicles before bursting into a fireball.

The 11 GSU officers who were killed in the gruesome Karai road accident include: Abdisalam Aden of No.89518 Cpl, Cpl/Drv James Kamau of No.87481, Samuel Muthiora of No.94716 PC, Bernard Kung’u of No. 94113 PC, Alfred Nyabando of No. 94445 PC, Victor Tumo of No.94380 PC, Kevin Kibet of No.97041 PC, Evans Luturomoon of No.99408 PC, Bernard Mele of No.97344 PC, Esther Mungai of No.98542 PC/W and Joseph Ouko of No.76039 PC/BUG.
