Ruth Kamande Wanjiru was crowned Miss Lang’ata Women’s Prison Wednesday, August 31 in a colourful ceremony held at the Lang’ata Prison in Nairobi.
The 21-year-old floored 19 other contestants to emerge fairest of them all.
Ms Kamande – who has been in remand for nearly a year –, allegedly stabbed her boyfriend Farid Mohammed to death last year September in Buruburu estate, Nairobi.
Tina Martin, a Tanzanian who is in remand for drug-related crime, was crowned first runner-up, while Susan Wairimu who is in remand for robbery and murder-related crime came third.
Lang’ata Women’s Prison staff also held their parallel beauty pageant which saw Doreen Ombati, the Inspector of Prisons, emerging the winner.
