Twelve people including a Chinese man were on Tuesday arraigned in court and charged with conducting illegal gambling businesses in Kisii County.
It is said that the 12 had not acquired the necessary documents from the Betting Control and License Board.
The 12 were arrested in the ongoing crackdown of illegal gambling business that is taking place in various parts of the county. They were fined Ksh.10,000 each.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Commissioner Peter Mbugi said that the owners of the machines were arrested last week and the 36 machines seized, however, the real owners of the machines escaped arrest.
Mr Mbugi gave a stern warning to the owners of the betting machines to stop conducting the business without the required documents from BCLB.
“Crackdown will continue till they comply with the law and they must have a permit from the BCLB before commencing the business,” added Mr Mbugi.
He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and ensure they are not indulging in businesses that would ruin their lives during this long December holidays.
