Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) and NASA Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga’s elder brother Dr. Oburu Oginga has sensationally accused the Jubilee administration of bankrolling the campaigns for independent candidates in Nyanza region, to thwart the ODM leader’s presidential hopes.
Oburu has questioned the independent candidates’ sources of money for election campaigns, arguing some of the candidates had turned into overnight millionaires, who are doling out money “aimlessly” at campaign rallies.
Speaking in Siaya on Friday, Oburu, who is the chairman of National Super Alliance (NASA) campaign team in Nyanza, told Jubilee Party leader, President Uhuru Kenyatta, that his “desperate move to finance independent candidates in Nyanza so as to eat into Raila Odinga’s votes won’t bear fruits”.
Oburu claims to know all avenues Jubilee Party agents are using to finance campaign trails of the independent candidates in Nyanza.
The nominated MP has warned Nyanza independent candidates working in cahoots with the ruling Party that he will expose them if they don’t refrain from using the money (obtained from Jubilee) on Nyanza constituents.
Oburu urged voters not to trade their democratic right for money dished out by politicians.
Seven candidates will run as independent candidates for various elective seats in Siaya County.
Jakoyo Midiwo will be defending his Gem seat on an independent ticket as his Rarieda counterpart, Nicholas Gumbo, seeks to unseat the incumbent Governor Cornel Rasanga.
Others running as independent candiates include: Neto Adhola (Rarieda), Andiwo Mwai (Bondo), Muluan Omondi (Alego Usonga), Odunga Mamba(Alego Usonga) and a Governor candidate Omoro Odhiambo.
