Popular Kikuyu gospel singer Shiru wa GP has turned down her Groove Awards nomination, just a week after the much awaited list came out.
Wa GP, who had been nominated in the Central Counties Song of the Year category for the hit Ihinda Ria Kinya, says she is giving upcoming artistes from her region a chance to shine.
The Agiginyani hit-maker made this announcement through her Facebook page.
“Good evening, on the issue of Groove Awards, I have decided to give upcoming artistes the opportunity to be nominated. So, kindly vote for the artiste of your choice. I thank the Lord for your unending support. Thanks,” she wrote.
Shiru wa GP joins Lillian Rotich who did the same in the category of raising new talents.
Ms Rotich, who had been nominated in the Rift Valley Counties Song of the Year category for the hit Chamyet, said she learnt of her nomination when she was on a Mombasa tour.
“I take this opportunity to turn down the Groove 2016 Awards nomination and encourage everyone who has been supportive of my ministry to support and vote for other artists of their choice in the same category,” Lillian Rotich wrote on Facebook on April 27.
“For the past 8 years running, I have been nominated in this category (Rift Valley Counties Song of the Year) and even though I have never won, I acknowledge that it has projected my ministry to the national and international platform,” she acknowledged.
