A Narok teenager shocked residents when she threw a two-week old infant in a 30 feet latrine and fled the scene Wednesday, September 1.
Workers at a Narok Town slaughterhouse spotted the woman, believed to be in her late teens, visiting a pit latrine while carrying a wrapped baby, but when she came out, she had no baby.
The confusing incident prompted a revenue officer to halt business and respond to cries of an infant that was emanating from the latrine.
Workers from the slaughterhouse joined the rescue mission, but their efforts bore no fruits.
Police, who rushed to the scene, used a long rod that they hooked on the baby’s swaddle to remove it alive.
The toddler had a piece of clothe tightened around its neck and the head was bleeding, with onlookers claiming that the mother intended to kill it.
Police swaddled the baby and rushed it to Narok County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.
Police are looking for the suspect who remains at large.
