Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has claimed he has no legal powers to grant Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, a release from remand.
President Museveni made that remark in a press statement released Wednesday.
“On the issue of releasing Bobi Wine and the others [MPs] , the President of Uganda does not have such powers. Once somebody is arrested, charged and remanded, it is only two authorities who can release such people in any way: the Courts or the DPP withdrawing charges if the evidence is not enough,” said President Museveni.
“Let us therefore, wait for the Courts and see what they decide,” he said.
In another detailed statement, Museveni also condemns the attack on protesters and journalists by security forces, who protested Bobi Wine’s arrest last Monday.
Bobi Wine, who is facing illegal firearm possession charge, will be arraigned in court on Thursday, August 23.
