A burial programme in Gatundu North, Kiambu County was on Wednesday, September 6 disrupted, after an unruly group of mourners stormed the venue for burial and set ablaze two houses belonging to the father of the deceased, Patrick Njoroge, and another belonging to Njoroge’s suspected killer, Ngugi Kahura.
Njoroge, 30, died on August 30 after he was allegedly beaten up by Kahura in Mitero village after a fight ensued between them.
According to area chief, Sylvester Mbugua Kuria, the angry youth stormed the burial venue, coming from the mortuary, where the deceased’s body had been preserved.
After fulfilling their mission, the unruly group of youth took off to an unknown destination.
Despite the disruption, the burial programme continued, with chief Kuria assuring other mourners that those who set the two houses on fire would be arrested and charged.
Police continue to investigate the death of Njoroge.
