Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has said he has no apologies to make to Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula over a response he gave him after the Senator questioned why he (Matiang’i) was banning Nasa anti-IEBC demos in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu town centres yet he has no powers to do so.
“I used ‘nonsense’ response on Wetangula because what he said was as same as that. I used an English word which means what you are saying is not sensible. And it is there as an English word in the dictionary so that you use it to express yourself when something that someone is telling you does not make sense. There is no crime in that. It is an expression, it is an English word,” said Dr. Matiang’i in an exclusive interview with Citizen Television reporter Sam Gituku.
In an October 12 press conference in Nairobi, Wetangula said he sent this message to Matiang’i: “Why don’t you engage a lawyer to advise you on the constitutionality of your action, utterances and threat to innocent Kenyans. You have no power and capacity to ban lawful protests and or demonstrations.”
Wetangula was shocked when he got a one-word reply by Matiang’i: “nonsense”, to which he responded: “That is exactly what you are; arrogant, distasteful and unfit to hold public office.”
Meanwhile, Nasa protests in town centres of the major cities across the country were repulsed by anti-riot police on Friday after Matiang’I ban on CBD protests was implemented.
