Simon Ndaya Maina – a matatu tout cum driver working with city public transport company Kenya Bus – graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Procurement; Second Class Honors – Upper Division from the University of Nairobi on Friday, December 2.
Mr Maina, who plies Kibera-Nairobi CBD route, observes that customers often look down on them, with many thinking that they (matatu touts and drivers) are poorly educated and thus lack necessary qualifications to get ‘lucrative’ jobs.
“People despise us and our work. We stand a chance too,” he said.
Kenya Bus Limited took to their official social media pages Friday to celebrate Mr Maina for reaching a milestone that only few do.
“Congratulations to Simon Maina – our matatu graduate. All the best.”
Kenyans took to social media, especially Twitter, to celebrate Mr Maina.
Baba Eve said: “The guy is an inspiration to many. Congratulations Simon. I hope @KenyaBusLtd finds an opportunity for you in their procurement department.”
Sammi Nderitu tweeted: “Here is one determined person. I am very impressed.”
eDaily says congratulations to Simon Ndaya Maina on your graduation!
